BYD, a pioneering force in the global electrification movement, is making a significant leap towards becoming a formidable contender in the automotive industry. The company has recently unveiled patent images of its highly-anticipated pickup truck, a move that comes approximately eight months after the first sightings of a camouflaged prototype during rigorous testing. This development showcases BYD’s commitment to compete with long-established rivals and make its mark in the fiercely competitive pickup truck market.
BYD, on a global electrification journey, has unveiled patent images of its forthcoming pickup truck, marking a significant move in its quest to compete with established rivals. These revelations come roughly eight months after a camouflaged prototype was spotted during testing.
The design of the pickup appears to draw inspiration from both the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ranger. Notably, the C-shaped LED headlights resemble those seen on the Ranger, and a bold LED light bar spans the front fascia, reminiscent of the F-150 Lightning’s design. Furthermore, akin to the Ranger Raptor’s prominent Ford lettering on the grille, this pickup proudly features large BYD lettering on its own grille.
In other aspects, the pickup boasts a spacious double cab with four doors, promising a roomy interior. Its design incorporates practical features such as roof rails, a sporty bar above the bed, and black body cladding, which extends to the front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, and wheel arches. Notably, ample ground clearance hints at the pickup’s readiness for off-road adventures.
BYD Pickup is anticipated to offer the pickup with both battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. While specific details about the BEV variant remain limited, there is speculation that the plug-in hybrid configuration will involve a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine complemented by two electric motors, resulting in a robust combined output of 489 hp. This impressive power output surpasses even the Ford Ranger Raptor, which delivers 405 hp.
